Family Trip to Athens: A Memorable Journey
Thanks to PointsCrowd, our family adventure to Athens started smoothly. We discovered the Fresh Hotel, Athens, a Member of Design Hotels™, and it seemed perfect for our stay. Utilizing the Marriott Bonvoy Bevy™ American Express® card, we tapped into its 85k Marriott Bonvoy welcome bonuses. This was a game-changer! The 70k Marriott Bonvoy points we used completely covered our three-night stay, making the trip financially easier right from the start.
First Impressions: The Fresh Hotel
Upon arrival at Fresh Hotel, the contemporary design caught our eye. It's chic, yet welcoming - ideal for families.
Our room was comfortable and had all the essentials, plus a view that was simply breathtaking. A minor downside was the street noise, but it didn't spoil our experience.
Exploring Athens: Day 1
- The Acropolis: A must-visit! The history is palpable, and the view from the top is spectacular. Tip: Go early to beat the crowds.
- Lunch at a Local Taverna: Found a charming spot with delightful Greek cuisine. The tzatziki and souvlaki were divine.
- Stroll in Plaka: Wandering through the old streets, with their quaint shops and cafes, was a real treat.
Day 2: Beach and Culture
Morning at Glyfada Beach: A short trip from the city, this beach was a hit with the kids. Clear waters and a relaxed vibe.
National Archaeological Museum: This was fascinating, especially seeing the Antikythera Mechanism.
Day 3: Modern Athens and Farewell
Syntagma Square and Shopping: Mixed the old with the new by visiting the bustling Syntagma Square and exploring nearby shops.
Dinner with a View: Our last night was spent dining at a rooftop restaurant, overlooking the illuminated Acropolis.
Final Thoughts
The Fresh Hotel was a great base for our Athens adventure. The location was convenient for all our excursions, though I'd recommend earplugs for light sleepers. Athens is a city of contrasts, rich in history yet buzzing with modern life. The warmth of the locals and the delicious food made our trip unforgettable. Would we return? Absolutely!
